Its behind me!

Panto... Its bizarre traditions, the elements that are the same year in year out, and the characters you work with that make it different. I love the magic, and the predictable chaos that reigns in theatres up and down the country, the rushed Christmas shopping between the shows, the 'red team' and the 'blue team' winging about the state the other dancers have left the dressing rooms in, the challenge of making a beanstalk grow, or making a pumpkin turn into a coach, not to mention inclusion of the livestock, be it Shetland Ponies, or an acrobatic cat!
For people that haven't grown up with this insane Christmas culture the spectacle is bemusing to say the least. My beautiful mermaid has never seen a panto before, and the fact that the leading boy was a girl, and the Mother was a man in a frock, not to mention the Audience participation, the songs and the fact that everything was behind them is of course needing an explanation... I stuck with the tried and tested 'BUT ITS A PANTO' response, however, there are still questions, and I can't wait until next year, all the same jokes, and traits in a different fairy tale!
